A GREEN ROOF RENEWED
Based in Freeport, Maine, Tripping Gnome is a family-run farm growing mushrooms, microgreens, and produce in fields and forests. With a commitment to reducing food waste, supporting the local community, and caring for the land, the farm takes a thoughtful approach to both food production and environmental stewardship.

Recover Green Roofs was engaged to complete a partial remediation of the farm’s existing 735-square-foot green roof, addressing vegetation and growing conditions to support renewed plant establishment.

The remediation included removing and disposing of existing vegetation, replacing the wood soil retainers, and incorporating two cubic yards of site-specific soil amendments to improve growing conditions. The roof was then reseeded to reestablish vegetation. To support plant establishment, Recover installed two micro-emitter irrigation zones connected to a ground-level irrigation controller, including the necessary wiring and solenoids.

The project reflects a shared commitment to responsible stewardship, bringing renewed attention to the health and long-term care of a living roof at a farm rooted in sustainable growing practices and community connection.
