Meet the Team

 

MARK WINTERER

GRP, OWNER, DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS
Mark is an accredited Green Roof Professional and licensed general contractor with a diverse background in landscaping, operational logistics, supply-chain management, and customer service. He received his MBA from the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University, where he became involved with Net Impact, an international organization committed to responsible business leadership. Net Impact inspired him to develop a business that would contribute to a more sustainable economy and healthy community. Since starting Recover with Brendan in 2009, Mark has helped design, build, and maintain over 100 green roofs throughout the Northeast.

BRENDAN SHEA

GRP, OWNER, DIRECTOR OF FIELD OPERATIONS
Brendan is a certified Green Roof Professional with over 15 years of project management and design-build implementation experience in the construction industry. His expertise is grounded in a decade of experience with the New England representative of Clivus Multrum, specializing in innovative, onsite wastewater engineering. His transition into the green roof industry allows him to combine his passion for plants with his experience in construction management and new technology implementation. At Recover, Brendan assists the design and estimating team to generate innovative and cost effective solutions to meet client needs, and guides crews to ensure quality craftsmanship in the field.

PETE ELLIS

DESIGNER/ESTIMATOR
Pete has worked in the construction trades for over a decade on a diversity of projects including commercial and residential carpentry, furniture design-build, landscaping, urban agriculture, project management and public art projects. He has an eye for detail and an aptitude for sustainable problem-solving that has enriched the team at Recover for the past 5 years. 

BRYNN BERNHEIMER

VP OPERATIONS & FINANCE  
Brynn comes to Recover with a diverse background in real estate, arts & entertainment, public relations, and personal caregiving. A go-to resource in the Somerville office, Brynn develops Recover’s in-house systems while supporting her surrounding team members in renewing the urban environment with vital plant life.

MATT BARNER

SITE SUPERINTENDENT
After graduating from The Landing School of Boat Building and Design in Maine, Matt worked as a boatbuilder and woodworker creating exterior and interior finishing, woodwork, and custom fiberglass boats for 15 years. At Recover, Matt oversees hardscaping, decking, and custom woodworking with an eye for detail and an easy-going spirit.

EMILY MCKEEN

DIRECTOR OF HORTICULTURE
& MAINTENANCE

Emily comes to Recover with a dual degree in Sustainable Agriculture & Food Systems and EcoGastronomy from the University of New Hampshire. With hands-on work experience at various landscape design companies, she is well-versed in coordinating horticulture projects from concept to completion.

DAVE REITANO

SITE SUPERINTENDENT
Dave joins Recover with 40 years of experience in the construction industry as a self-employed carpenter-contractor. As our site superintendent, Dave manages day-to-day tasks on our project sites, including: scheduling and coordinating the Recover build crew, organizing subcontractors, ordering materials, and managing deliveries.

SARAH ATKINSON

MARKETING MANAGER & HORTICULTURE TECHNICIAN
Sarah comes to Recover with the goal to design and build environmentally sustainable and socially equitable communities. Sarah holds a Bachelor’s in Environmental Sciences from UC Berkeley and previously worked at a food education non-profit in San Francisco, managing marketing efforts and coordinating cooking and nutrition classes.

JIM THORNTON

DIRECTOR OF ESTIMATING
Jim joins Recover with extensive experience in estimating and project management in the landscape construction industry in the Washington, D.C. metroregion. Jim holds a degree in Economics from St. Lawrence University in New York, the alma mater of Recover’s co-owners Mark and Brendan. When he’s not working, Jim enjoys mountain biking, running and traveling.

CARLY YONG

ADMISTRATIVE ASSISTANT
Carly’s profession experience in the development and redevelopment of institutional and hospitality-related projects honed her ability to manage projects through different phases of design and construction. Carly received her B.A in Chinese Language and Business Administration from the University of Hawaii at Mānoa, and is currently working toward her Master’s in Management at Harvard University.

CHARLIE FISHER

PROJECT MANAGER
Born and raised in the Boston area, Charlie has worked with local construction managers on a variety of developments including restaurants, residential and multi-family projects. Before stepping into project management, Charlie lived in Malaysia for 7 years where he led sea turtle conservation efforts. When Charlie is not saving sea turtles or managing Recover projects, he enjoys biking, hiking, and camping.

LAURA FEDDERSEN

DESIGNER
Laura began designing urban environments in NYC while working with design firms Rader & Crews and Alspector Anderson Architects.  Her previous experience in farming and construction, such as her time as horticulture director at Green City Growers in Somerville, also informs her design sensibilities. Laura is a graduate of the Yestermorrow Design/Build School in VT and is currently working towards her MLA at Boston Architectural College.

NATE RICCITELLI

BUILDER
Nate's experience working in residential construction, water park maintenance, and managing his own painting company combined with his love for the outdoors and desire to build a more sustainable world makes him a perfect addition to the Recover team. After completing a co-op at Recover, Nate earned his B.S. in Business Management from Wentworth Institute of Technology and returned to join the Recover team

KELL DRINKWATER

HORTICULTURE TECHNICIAN
Kell’s love for plants and passion for making the built environment more sustainable drew her to Recover. Kell received her B.S. in Bioengineering and previously worked for Metro Pedal Power as a delivery cyclist supporting businesses who wanted to delivery and move goods without producing necessary carbon emission.

KENNEDY VILLA

BUILDER
Kennedy comes to Recover with considerable woodworking experience and a keen interest in the ecological and public health benefits of green infrastructure. After graduating from Greater Lawrence Technical with a concentration in carpentry, Kennedy worked on a number of build projects in the Greater Boston area before finding Recover.

JAMES MCSWEENEY

HORTICULTURE TECHNICIAN
James' roots are in sustainable agriculture development, with a B.A. in Agroecology from Prescott College and experience developing farms and ecological landscapes in Arizona and Hawaii. His work on green roofs stems from a passion to create a more liveable and resilient built environment. James is also a composting consultant, providing planning services to composters throughout the Northeast.

ANDREW NOWACK

BUILDER
Drew’s experience in carpentry and landscaping on Cape Cod, combined with his love for being outdoors and his desire to bring green spaces back into the concrete jungle of city life lead him to work at Recover.  While not working or visiting his family on the Outer Cape, Drew is pursuing a degree in Urban Planning & Design with Arizona State University.

Brian brings a lifetime of experience to Recover and an enthusiasm for problem solving that is hard to match. Brian's commitment to building exceptional green roofs and terraces alongside his knack for keeping the crew laughing brings candor and quality to daily work in the field.

THEA PRICE-ECKLES

BUILDER
Thea studied architecture, interior design, furniture design, and woodworking at the Pratt Institute, North Bennet Street School, and MassArt. Before joining Recover, Thea built her own woodworking business, producing primarily lathe-turned homewares and commissioned furniture in her wood shop.
